The legendary Mary Lou Cook of Santa Fe, New Mexico celebrated her 90th bday with a fabulous party at the Santa Fe Folk Art Museum. MLC, as she likes to be called, created the New Mexico Department of Peace and several projects as an author and artist. MLC is an inspiration to all of us.
Lunching on chicken enchiladas, MLC knew everyone in the restaurant when we met for a bite to eat many years ago. Wearing one of her fabulous trademark hats, she ran the city of Santa Fe with a smile and determined will power. MLC carries with her a wonderful mix of spiritual insights, with a grounded attitude of what is right and wrong.
MLC worked with the Ethereal Church of Light as an ordained minister and led classes on The Course of Miracles. A well-connected networker one day when we were hanging out at her home I mentioned that I wanted to interview the Vice president Al Gore for my newspaper I was publishing at the time. She suddenly picked up her phone and speed dialed Mr. Gore's office. Yes, a well-connected...and well-cherished lady.
Happy Birthday MLC! YOU are a fabulous friend!

We are blasting off our $100,000 campaign to bring heat to our new Archive and exhibition space in the Annex building. The Heat is On! is a series of variety shows celebrating La MaMa artists and benefiting our HVAC (heating ventilating and air-conditioning system.) Each month, La MaMa will produce a variety show with music, singing, dance, sketch comedy, puppets, drag queens and more. This party like atmosphere will also include raffles and refreshments. The best way to assess your self-worth is to look within because each of us is unique, and uniqueness simply cannot be compared. What others possess and how they behave is unrelated to you because there is no one in the world quite like you. You learn little when comparing yourself to others. However, by looking within and marveling at your own worth, you can come to realize that you are wonderful simply because you are you. Your worth is not based on any single characteristic, which may be found in many people. Instead, it is the combination of your unique characteristics that make you priceless. Recognize today that no two people are alike, and it will become easier to find your worth inside yourself....the fabulousdailyom visits us once again....

When we can be honest with ourselves about what we truly desire, then we can connect our desires to the creative power of the spirit within us. Knowing that we are one with the energy of the universe allows us release any need for defense. Trusting that power, we know that we are exactly where we are meant to be, and that challenges bring gifts of growth and experience. When we can put down arms raised in defense, then we are free to use our hands, minds, hearts and spirits to mold and shape our abundant energy to create and live our lives....thefabulousdailyom has spoken.

I am under the weather with a 102 temp, the doc says I will live, that's the good news, but to tell you the truth I feel like puppy poo-poo that's been run over by a Biker Dike Gal.....I haven't looked in the mirror in a few days and today I thought I could stomach it....guess again, ohhhh not pretty, just not pretty.
When I am feeling sicko I tend to get all retro-thinking about my life, well I can not get anymore retro than this news item; Donny and Marie will be showcasing their legendary talents in Las Vegas...Isn't that great! I won't be catching any of their shows, but I am sure some of you F.A.G Peeps will be!! Get your F.A.G family to Las Vegas to see these two go at it once again!
Now, when my temp breaks perhaps I will wonder why I posted a promo for Donny and Marie, but for now as I cough-hack and throw-up a vat of Matzo Ball Soup it seems like a great idea to publicly endorse my old time friends....

The past is gone, and I don't know what's coming in the future. It's obvious that if I want my life to be whole, to resonate with feeling and integrity and value and health, there's only one way I can influence the future: by owning the present. If I can relate to this moment with integrity, and then this moment with integrity, and then this moment with integrity, wakefully, then the sum of that is going to be very different over time, over many moments that stretch out into what we call a life, than a life that is lived mostly on automatic pilot, where we are reacting and being mechanical and are therefore somewhat numb. ~Jon Kabat-Zinn
As Vancouver reflects on the past 30 years, there is much to be proud of in the GBLT community in Vancouver. Pride began some 30 years ago as a small local march and has grown into a nationally and internationally recognized parade and festival bringing more than 400,000 people into the streets of Vancouver's West End. In the last three decades Pride has grown into the one of Vancouver's premier events and Canada's longest running parade. A profound legal and cultural struggle over the years has brought the freedom and equality we celebrate and share today. The Vancouver Pride Society, in celebrating 30 years, wants to ensure that reflection upon the struggles and sacrifices made to achieve this milestone are not forgotten.
Activate just launched in Southern California. The drink’s vitamins and herbs are stored as powder in a chamber inside the cap. When you twist the cap clockwise, a small plastic blade cuts the seal in the chamber, allowing the ingredients to drop into the water below. Fabulous vitamins and other healthful ingredients deteriorate in water.....hmmmm....sounds like fun to me!! So, get yourself Activated F.A.G People!
Why not be an optimist in this life, always expecting the best, always finding the best, always creating the best? Optimism leads to power; pessimism leads to weakness and defeat. Let the power of the Spirit shine in and through you, creating around you a world of beauty, peace and harmony. When your outlook on life is optimistic, you lift all those souls around you, giving them hope, faith and belief in life. You will always find that like attracts like, that your optimism will create optimism and will snowball. There is always hope in life, even if it is but a tiny flickering spark to begin with. When it is surrounded with hope and love in the right atmosphere, that tiny spark will be fanned into a flame; and it will grow and grow until you are on fire with the fuel of the Spirit which is unquenchable and inexstinguishable. Once it has been ignited, nothing will be able to stop it spreading. ~Eileen Caddy

Do we need to make a special effort to enjoy the beauty of the blue sky? Do we have to practice to be able to enjoy it? No, we just enjoy it. Each second, each minute of our lives can be like this. Wherever we are, any time, we have the capacity to enjoy the sunshine, the presence of each other, even the sensation of our breathing. We don't need to go to China to enjoy the blue sky. We don't have to travel into the future to enjoy our breathing. We can be in touch with these things right now.

Those of us on the path of personal and spiritual growth have a tendency to analyze our unhappiness in order to find the causes and make improvements. But it is just as important, if not more so, to analyze our happiness. Since we have the ability to rise above and observe our emotions, we can recognize when we are feeling joyful and content. Then we can harness the power of the moment by savoring our feelings and taking time to be grateful for them. Recognition is the first step in creating change, therefore recognizing what it feels like to be happy is the first step toward sustaining happiness in our lives. ~the fabulousdailyom has spoken...

Same-Sex Couples Face Adoption Difficulties
When Richard Smith and Rob Tan decided to adopt a child, the San Francisco couple looked to Guatemala rather than battle a US system that gay-rights advocates say discriminates against same-sex couples.
And even then, Smith and Tan had to hide their sexual preference to adopt a child.
Adoption is an arduous process for all prospective parents but same-sex couples say it is even tougher for them. Some are forced to lie about who they are. Others are only allowed to adopt older or troubled children who are hard to place.
Smith, a former Catholic priest who left the Jesuit order to pursue life as an openly gay man, temporarily went back into the closet and sought approval to adopt as a single parent to avoid being disqualified based on his sexual orientation.
Tan only became the child's second father in the eyes of the law after they brought the child to San Francisco and registered with the state of California.
The number of gay couples parenting children is growing. US Census data shows there were more than 161,000 families with children headed by gay couples in 2000 the first year such statistics were tracked.
Those figures fail to include single gay parents like David Christian Hamblin of Rochester, New York. It took him four years to persuade sceptical social workers to let him adopt as a single, gay parent.
When he finally won them over, they placed him with a particularly challenging case: Matthew, a child of a crack addict who was still wearing diapers at age 5, having been neglected by overburdened social-service agencies.
Hamblin embraced the child, setting up a home office so that he would be around when the boy came home from school.
"He has become an amazing young boy the light of my existence and the reason I get up every day," says Hamblin.
Adopting as a couple
Leigh Powers and Laura Patey exchanged vows in 1995, affirming their love in a Holy Union ceremony before a church congregation. They were legally married in 2004, when Massachusetts became the first and only US state to legalize same-sex marriage.
By then they were seasoned parents, having adopted two children, Jessie and Alex, both when they were age 11 and had spent years in foster homes.
Massachusetts is one of a handful of US states that let gay parents jointly adopt. Others include California, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont and the District of Columbia.
The process was relatively easy for the couple, they say, because they were adopting older children who spent years in foster care.
"The thing that we always found most ironic is that people comment that gay and lesbian couples were not fit to be parents. But the kids they direct us to are the ones who are most difficult to care for," says Patey.
"We don't think that being a gay or lesbian family is all that special," adds Powers. "The neat part is being in a position to be a part of a young person's life. To be a mentor, a guide along the journey."

Though others may be able to offer valuable insights into your character, it is important to remember that it is your own self-opinion that wields the most power. The way in which you perceive yourself can have a profound affect on your ability and desire to take risks, form relationships, and grow. When you accept that your self-image constitutes a vital part of your experience, you can disregard the opinions of others and judge yourself based on your own merits. You also gain the ability to look within and analyze or change the personal traits that you feel are no longer buoying your experiences. By recognizing that your own opinion of yourself is the most valuable one today, no one’s words will have the power to hold you back.

As you take a few minutes each day to quiet your mind, you will
discover a nice benefit: your everyday, "ordinary" life will begin to
seem far more extraordinary. Little things that previously went
unnoticed will begin to please you. You'll be more easily satisfied,
and happier all around. Rather than focusing on what's wrong with
your life, you'll find yourself thinking about and more fully enjoying
what's right with your life. The world won't change, but your
perception of it will. You'll start to notice the little acts of kindness
and caring from other people rather than the negativity and anger.

Ceramic and bronze

Kellogg Johnson has long been drawn to the vessel form as the essence of ceramic art. Instinctively aware of the depth of meaning within our ancient human engagement with ceramics, he has evolved an archaeological metaphor in his work. He builds large-scale vessels and takes them through a physically arduous and hazardous process of firing and finishing with the result that his pieces already appear to be artifacts of great antiquity. Stained and scarred, burned and blemished and sometimes even broken and repaired, they seem as if they had lain in the earth for millennia, relics of some long-forgotten civilization. In their ambitious scale, Johnson's vessels are actually larger than most ancient pottery—except, perhaps, the great clay jars called "pithoi" found in the labyrinthine storage magazines of the Palace of Minos.
This is one of the many things that can be so valuable about cultivating relationships with people from all walks of life. As we get to know those who seem so different from us, we get to really see how much of life’s challenges and joys are universal. We begin to look beyond the packaging of skin color, clothing preferences, and socioeconomic differences, hairstyles, and the cars we drive to the heart of the human experience. It is important to honor and value the differences in our packaging, but it is just as important to honor the gift of life inside each one of us, and the fact that, no matter how different the packaging, the gift inside is the same.~fabulous dailyom.

It is only by contemplating our future that we can begin shaping our dream life. It’s tempting to daydream and think vaguely about what we hope will be waiting for us. To create what we want, it is necessary that we first consider what our desire means and how we can make it happen. Contemplation lets us weigh the myriad possibilities that we could create and gives us time to mull over one path versus another to see the merits and drawbacks. Listening to our intuition as well as our intellect allows us to consider all of our wisdom. When you’re willing to seriously contemplate the life you long for today, you take the first steps to make it a reality....the fabulous daily OM speaks...
We are all so bent and determined to get what we want, we miss
the lessons that could be learned from life's experiences. Many
of my AIDS patients discovered that the last year of their lives
was by far their best. Many have said they wouldn't have traded
the rich quality of that last year of life for a healthier body.
Sadly, it is only when tragedy strikes that most of us begin attending
to the deeper aspects of life. It is only then that we attempt to go
beyond surface concerns--what we look like, how much money
we make, and so forth--to discover what's really important.

The law of karma is a special instance of the law of cause and effect, according to which all our actions of body, speech, and mind are causes and all our experiences are their effects.
The law of karma explains why each individual has a unique mental disposition, a unique physical appearance, and unique experiences. These are the various effects of the countless actions that each individual has performed in the past. We cannot find any two people who have created exactly the same history of actions throughout their past lives, and so we cannot find two people with identical states of mind, identical experiences, and identical physical appearances.
Each person has a different individual karma. Some people enjoy good health while others are constantly ill. Some people are very beautiful while others are very ugly. Some people have a happy disposition that is easily pleased while others have a sour disposition and are rarely delighted by anything. Some people easily understand the meaning of spiritual teachings while others find them difficult and obscure.
Karma means ‘action’, and refers to the actions of our body, speech, and mind. Every action we perform leaves an imprint, or potentiality, on our very subtle mind, and each imprint eventually gives rise to its own effect.

"This is no ordinary coloring book. The stuff of deep therapy for the mind, body and spirit is found in these pages. Magic Mandala Coloring Book is a book for adults and children, and its uses extend beyond that of spiritual enlightenment. I use it in conjunction with the Perceptual Skills Training I employ in the tutoring of learning-disabled children. It is a marvelous tool for combining the visual and kinesthetic aspects of learning and creating. There is peace and order in the perfect geometry of the designs, and I have found that the mandala has the power to bring my whole being into a state of life-giving and life-affirming simplicity and tranquility."

During these times of lack of harmony among men and nations, when the world is rocked with chaos and strife and lack of faith, what greater work could a man engage in than that of planting constructive thoughts where destructive ones grew before? You have influence with a certain number of people and if you wish to exercise that influence so it will bring you the greatest return in happiness and in fortune you will lay aside all hatred or prejudice which many have fastened itself upon you and devote every ounce of your influence to helping men see the folly of strife and struggle and destructive effort. In thus wielding your influence for good you may be sure that your efforts will return to you, like a boomerang, not to curse but to bless you and yours, for as surely as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west the world will hand you back that which you hand it. You can be a man with a grievance or a man with a message; you can be a BUILDER or a DESTROYER, but make sure of this, that you can no more tear down without in turn being torn down, than you could sow wild mustard and reap a harvest of oats. ~Napoleon Hill's Magazine. November, 1921
Amazing to me how we can apply this to our lives today. No More grievances- Let's build a better world and reap the harvest of a more positive world.
No matter what- LOVE can produce more than hatred....change your perspective and you create a miracle...All of us are seeking love my dear L, and yes, some us mess up...but love conquers in the end....so sit quietly and think about your busy actions and motor mouthing and see if you are producing anything productive.
Grievances only hurt those whom perpetuate them.
